Community Transformation At GBNV, we strongly believe that we are called to impact unreached communities through the resources that God has given to us. As marketplace believers, we are uniquely positioned to do this through sustainable business platforms that can bring long term impact and achieve lasting change.
We run long-term development work together with local partner organizations in targeted communities. Our most important tools are education, microfinance and business. By providing people with knowledge and skills, the possibility to save and access to small loans, we empower them to get out of poverty. But the poor have to climb it themselves. This is ''teaching them how to fish, rather than simply giving them the fish''.
Dignity and lasting results
GBNV creates lasting change coupled with the tenacious efforts of the poor. At the same time we witness people gaining a sense of self-respect and pride from what they are able to achieve. This is important to us. Because pride, dignity and self-respect can not be given in the form of gifts - they come as fruits from the work invested by people in their own lives.
Local Partners
At GBNV, we chose to work with local partners at the regional level. This strengthens the organization in more ways than one. One of the positive effects is that the administration costs are lower. But the most important thing is that the locals know the area's culture, and they know where the help is needed the most.
The GBNV model for community transformation is to support projects that meet 3 main criteria:
1. sustainable business platforms that can generate adequate profits;
2. must be able to impact the wider local community (and not just the project administrators); and
3. must have a Kingdom focus on evangelism and discipleship.
Transformation Fund
GBNV manages a Transformation Fund which is contributed by our partners (individuals and companies) who understands their calling and share our vision of transforming communities through practical means by eradicating poverty. Companies adopt our Transformation Program through their Corporate Social Responsibility Program. We provide information on our Program to companies who wish to do thisso that they can adopt it as part of their CSR statement in their websites and various corporate communications.
Here are some projects which GBNV is currently supporting and where you can also partner with us:

A Tool To Eradicate Poverty:
MICROFINANCE
The focus of Micro-Finance is on helping the 'poorest of the poor' in the agricultural communities through small loans. We have a particular focus on empowering the women and children.
What is MicroFinance?
MicroFinance Benefits to Local Communities
[The above videos share similar opening and closing sequences. Please watch through them]
Microfinance is about giving poor, creative people access to small loans and financial services so that they can obtain a steady income and a secure future.
Poor people have difficulties getting loans in normal banks. Microfinance deals with this problem. Through microfinance poor people get a chance to start or develop own ideas and businesses so that they are able to create a living. It may be a loan to buy a sewing machine that can provide an extra source of income, or money for a water pump that can water the fields in a more efficient way.
Traditional development assistance has often looked upon poor people as passive people in need of help. Microfinance, on the other hand, promotes poor people as resources. They are able and willing to do something with their lives if given the chance.
Just because they are poor does not mean they are incapable.
They simply need the opportunity to help themselves
Banking turned upside down
Microfinance turns traditional banking upside down. While normal banks usually lend money to rich men, it is the poor, women in particular, who are given loans through microfinance. And while normal banks demand security in for example property, microfinance is based on trust. Loans in normal banks require a lot of paper work - microfinance is available also for illiterate people.
Targeting women
Women, in many poor nations, are always in majority in poor groups. And in many places women are suppressed both socially and financially. At the same time we have seen that women often manage the income better for the family as a whole. For this reason, most of our microfinance projects are especially aimed at women.
Cambodia GBNV has commenced supporting a childcare centre in Phnom Penh, Cambodia - Grace International School. The community transformation model is for the school to be a for-profit centre, generating surplus profits which will be channelled towards the support of various ministries. Thus the ministries do not need to rely on external funding.
2010-11 Project Report At GBNV, we are committed to evaluating the progress of each of our supported projects and providing an evaluation report to our contributing partners. Here is an evaluation of our Micro-Finance Project in Myanmar, which was initiated in the 4th quarter of 2009:
